Relay For Life

Since Damon works at a Cancer Center, we have had opportunities over the years to participate and join in on their Relay for Life team. What a great way to show support for all those that are battling cancer and that have beaten cancer. We are also able to so loving memory to those that have fallen to cancer. This year, Damon's company participated in 3 different Relay for Life Events, Mid- Country, Beaumont and Orange County. Here is a picture that was taken of some of the people at the Beaumont Relay for Life. For those of you that don't know too much about Relay for Life, all the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society and Cancer Research. The event begins with an opening ceremony remembering those that have lost their lives do to cancer. And they have lanterns that are lit when it becomes dark. The opening lap is taken by those that have beaten and survived cancer. We all love watching on and cheering for those wonderful people! Then the remainder of the night you and your team take turns walking the track. And at least one person has to be on the track at all times from your team. It was fun because this year was the first year that we took the kids for part of it. Generally it last all night long from 6pm till 6am. However, here in Southeast Texas it is held in April and almost every single one that we have been to has been rained out. As was the case of this one. Jay took many turns running the track with different people from Damon's work. And Emma loved joining along. Chasing Jay as much as she could. We also got to visit with some fun people. I ran into a lot of friends that also work in the health field and talked and walked with them. I am very grateful for all the new treatments and medications that are out there and all that has been done to fight cancer. We have lost many family members due to cancer and then also have many family members that have battled and have won against cancer. I am so glad that Damon went into a medical field where he can help and support those that are going through possibly the most difficult time in their lives. Thank you Dame and the Cancer Center of Southeast Texas and all others in the cancer field for all that you do!!Some of the staff and family of the Cancer Center of Southeast Texas.
Looky, looky who we found...
My brother, Bryce and his wife Jodi
(Yes, we have the same name. Different spelling though. She is the NEW Jodi Portie. And we couldn't be more happy to have her in our family!)
It was way past Emma's bed time at this point and she wasn't happy with anything! She is very strict about her 7pm bed time with us. She hates it when we keep her up past it.
