For Family Home Evening the other night we watched the Mormon Message from President Thomas S. Monson to the Primary children called, "Pass It On". In the video he talked about the primary children going and doing acts of serve for those in their families and wards. So after the video we talked to the children about the challenge and talked about some serve that they could do for others. We decided to start with service for Grandpa and Grandma Portie. They both serve in the Houston Temple one day a week and it makes for a long day with having to drive all the way to Houston and then be there for several hours and then drive back two hours again. Especially for Grandpa who still has a farm to care for when he gets home. So the children decided that they would go and gather the eggs for their Grandparents while they were at the Temple. We went and gathered 43 eggs that day. We left them in their house for them to find when they got home. The kids were so excited to be doing a surprise act of service for someone. Especially someone they love so much. Then like President Monson asked, we wrote him a letter about it and mailed it with some pictures. And to our surprise today we got a letter to us from President Monson's Secretary. What a great surprise!!!! We have included the letter for journal purposes but you are welcome to read it as well. If you want to watch the video from President Monson, here is the link,

Okay - that is the coolest thing ever!! We are totally going to find something to do:) I couldn't read the letter very well b/c I couldn't blow it up but from what I could read - it seemed very personal. That is really neat Jodie.
Such a cool story, Jodie! I love it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was featured in The Friend. You're such a great mom!
Thanks y'all! The Friend, that is a little too much. :0) The kids were just so excited that someone took the time to write them back. It meant the world to them! We miss you guys back here in Vidor.
