Surgery Date

Just got off the phone with Dr. Fakhri. Can I tell you that I love it when the Doctor, himself calls and not a nurse! Not that I don't like the Nurses, they are wonderful! It is just that you get the direct answers and none of the relay messages and unanswered questions. So I know you are not interested in that, the surgery date is May 31, 2011 early in the morning. Dr. Fahkri said that he is waiting till then because Damon's case is a very difficult one and he wants to make sure that he has a clear head and that Damon is the first on the surgery docket for the day. Now with that said, he also told me that he had not received the culture back from the sample of CSF that was collected during the office visit. But that he did receive the MRI & CT reports and that he had NO doubt that it was CSF. There was a 3cm fracture above Damon's left eye that had part of the cranium lining coming out and that is where the fluid was coming from. But also that there were 2 other smaller fractures that could be leaking the fluid as well. So a possibility of 3 total leaks. Dr. Fakhri again was really baffled that the only head injury Damon sustained was 7 years ago. Well that tells us that the one 7 years ago really was a major head trauma to be haunting him 7 years later. He then went on to tell me that the leak is in a very difficult spot to get to through the nasal cavity and that he would try and repair from there but might have to make an incision by the left eyebrow and go in through there. Also that type of repair has a 5% chance of damage to some other nerves around that area. Well okay 5%, that is still so much less of a risk then a craniotomy!! Now with all of that said, Damon's surgery will take 3 1/2 to 4 hours instead of the 1 1/2 hour surgery. That is almost as long as his craniotomy took 7 years ago. Wow, I am sure that I will be driving myself nuts and walking laps around that waiting room. When Damon had the accident and we were all sitting there in the waiting room, Damon's Dad, Damon's Mom, my Mom, my Dad, Me, Damon's Brother- Cory, Damon's Brother- Joey and his other brother- Jared (for a moment), no one talked to anyone. We sat there in complete silence. So when I picture waiting on Damon to come out of surgery, I picture sitting in that quiet hospital waiting room. Oh joy!!! But we will be fine and take lots of books and magazines and a laptop. Again, thank you so much for all of your prayers, kind words and thoughts. We can feel your love and the love that our Heavenly Father has blessed us with. We are so grateful for modern medicine and the healing power of faith. Thank you so much and we love all of you!!
